The big news around So. Ill in the last 9 months has been the resurrection of Don from the Dead. Don had some knee and back issues, and did some surgery…and, he owns a really nice recumbent! But, before Don died and got bent out of shape, he was one of the strongest climbers in So. Ill, and he had some nifty bike skills as well. Don has slowly been inching forward, riding road, riding long, riding cross, and now he’s riding everything! In this winter of the freeze, we did a good bit of MTB riding. All of the close trails in Etherton and Pomona were closed by the storm, so driving was the only thing to do when the temperatures dipped. Don tried out Alison’s Litespeed Pisgah, and he was hooked. Alison was looking to sell, I think she’d ride West coasty stuff, but the trails around here are pretty technical and she didn’t like them. Needless to say, Don has become a complete terror on the MTB, and has even been joining in on Berto’s psycho nightrides! I’m hoping to take him to the Leadbelt XC race this weekend….It’s hard to overstate the degree to which Don is a MTB natural. Brian Van’s been ready to turn in his MTB, and Molteni was seriously on the rivet in his first hard core 29er ride.
So, I’ll be doing my first XC race in about 6 years…..That should be good….I’m half thinking about doing the endurance race….
